4Runner
|
The 4Runner is the volume leader among Toyota's three sport utility
vehicles, outselling the RAV4 two to one and the Land Cruiser nearly
seven to one. This year's changes are limited to a handful of new
standard features. All trims get the All-Weather Guard Package as
standard, the base 4Runner adds a rear window wiper and defogger, and
the Limited and SR5 gain daytime running lights and audio upgrades.

Avalon
|
Toyota's nearly full-size sedan gets its most extensive changes since
it was introduced as a 1995 model, including new styling, more power
and a roomier interior.

|
| |
Camry
|
A minor facelift is the main news for 2000 on the Camry, America's
favorite passenger car. Camry outsold the Honda Accord in 1997 and
1998 and has a big lead in the 1999 race.
|
|
| |
Camry Solara
|
New for the 1999 model year, the Camry Solara coupe carries over for
2000 with minor changes. A convertible will join the lineup in the
spring as a 2001 model.
|
|
| |
Celica
|
One of the oldest model names in Toyota's lineup has a new look aimed
at younger buyers and a potent new engine for the GT-S model.
|
|
| |
Corolla
|
Toyota's popular front-drive compact gets a small power boost as its
major change for 2000. Though Corolla was designed in Japan, North
American models are built either in Canada or at a California plant
Toyota shares with General Motors. Chevrolet sells a similar sedan as
the Prizm.

ECHO
|
Echo is a new front-drive subcompact sedan designed to attract younger
buyers to the Toyota family. Echo replaces the Tercel as Toyota's
least expensive U.S. model but represents a new design philosophy that
bears some similarities to the new Ford Focus.

Land Cruiser
|
The largest and most expensive of Toyota's three sport utes adds
safety and convenience features for 2000, including four-wheel
traction control, skid control, Brake Assist and a six-disc, in-dash
CD changer. In addition, leather seats and a power moonroof,
previously optional, are now standard. Land Cruiser is the basis for
the Lexus LX470, a more luxurious, more expensive rendition of the
same vehicle. The two use the same 4.7-liter V-8 and full-time 4WD
system.

RAV4
|
Toyota's car-based hybrid sport utility vehicle gains the All Weather
Guard Package as standard equipment for 2000 but is otherwise a rerun.
The package, a $70 option last year, includes a heavy-duty battery and
starter motor, larger windshield-washer reservoir and rear heater
ducts. Toyota was one of the first to offer a car-based SUV when it
introduced the RAV4 as a 1997 model. It is built on a platform that
includes components from the Celica and Camry and has unibody
construction.

Sienna
|
Toyota was a small player in the minivan market until it introduced
the front-wheel-drive Sienna to replace the rear-wheel-drive Previa.
Business has picked up for Toyota since that introduction, and the
Sienna is the top-selling import model in this segment.

|
| |
Tacoma
|
New StepSide models with flared rear fenders are available this spring
in both regular-cab and extended-cab versions as late additions to the
2000 Tacoma lineup. The StepSide models copy similar flared-fender
models available from Ford, Chevrolet and GMC that prove popular with
buyers looking for sporty styling.
|
|
| |
Tundra
|
Tundra is the first true full-size Japanese-brand pickup. Introduced
last summer as an early 2000 model, Tundra replaces the midsize T100
in Toyota's lineup and directly challenges full-size domestic pickups
such as the Ford F-150, Chevrolet Silverado, Dodge Ram and GMC
Sierra.
